Monkey Joe Roasting Company is a small, independently owned shop focusing on specialty grade, single-origin coffees, roasted in small batches to showcase each coffee's distinctive flavor and aromatic elements. Our wide selection of coffee covers all growing regions of the world and is available in our shop, through our website, or from one of our many wholesale customers.
Located in the historic Hutton building of industrial Midtown Kingston, a short walk to the Rondout Creek, and the bustling shops of the Stockade District, Monkey Joe Roasting Co. has become a mainstay of the Kingston community.
Gabriel Cicale and Kathleen Nealis first opened the business as a way to ensure that they always had a good cup of coffee. They decided to devote their work to something they loved that could be shared with others, drawing on Gabe's coffee-steeped Italian heritage and passion for roasting.
After working behind the counter and behind the scenes for many years, Brittany Morton and Melissa Brown purchased the business in 2019. Roaster, Tom DeLooza, has been crafting each batch of coffee for over a decade, following the tradition started by Gabe. Each roast is focused on the specific taste profile of the coffee –creating a rainbow of tastes highlighting the myriad varieties of amazing coffees available from around the world. With a commitment to fresh, sustainable coffee, a respect for the history of the city and surrounding areas, and a love of the Kingston community and their customers, they are shepherding the business into another era of supplying the Hudson Valley and beyond with coffee true to its founding principals.
Monkey Joe Roasting Co. is the perfect spot to while away an afternoon, have a quick business meeting, grab a cup on your way to work, or refuel mid-adventure. Wholesale distribution is available to craft the perfect finish to your dining experience, a grocery staple for market shelves, a locally sourced coffee for bed & breakfast guests, and office pricing to keep your staff and yourself going. In the non-profit sector, coffee fundraisers are a great way to help send your students on trips or fund your community group mission.

Built in the early 1900s by one of the pre-eminent families of Kingston and owners of a local brickyard, our building started out as the Rosenburgh Oyster House, with a tea shop located on the second floor. It progressed from Oysters to a Grocery and then to the Central Pharmacy in the 1940s and 50s. It has been a clothing store, a pizzeria, and most recently, Kingston Cyclery for 25 years before their move to Morton Boulevard. It was renovated back to its earlier charm in 2000. During renovations, the fireplace, large double-sash windows, the turn of the century tin ceiling and the original tile floor were revealed. Today they serve to create a welcoming and timeless atmosphere.
